ENOCH FOR MAC AND WINDOWS · LEGAL
Terms of Use
Enoch for Windows — Coming Early 2027.
The agreement between Sipumzo Trueman Lucwaba and you, covering the Enoch website and the Enoch application for macOS and Windows.
The short version
Enoch is a notation application you run on your own Mac or Windows PC. You may write whatever music you like with it, and everything you write belongs to you — we claim no ownership, no licence and no right to use your scores for anything, including training a model.
If you installed Enoch from the Mac App Store, Apple's standard licence agreement governs your use of the app; if you installed it from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft's Standard Application License Terms do. This page sets out our purchase, update and support commitments, as well as the terms for our website. Enoch is sold only through the Mac App Store and the Microsoft Store.
Enoch Play is free and stays free. Enoch Composer unlocks additional features. Whichever tier you are on, scores you have already made remain open, editable, saveable and exportable — we do not hold your own work hostage.
A Pumziwe perpetual purchase gives you permanent access to that named release and its updates. It also includes any new named release first published within 12 months of your purchase; an included release stays yours. A later named release may be offered as an optional paid upgrade.
Required disclosure. Section 43 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA) requires anyone offering goods or services through a website in South Africa to publish the details below. They are set out in full in clause 1.
Who you are dealing with
Enoch is written, published and sold by an individual, not by a company. The disclosures required by section 43 of ECTA are:
- Full name and legal status
- Sipumzo Trueman Lucwaba, a natural person trading as Enoch, in the Republic of South Africa
- Physical address
- 222 Smit Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2001, Gauteng, South Africa
- Website
- enochmusic.co.za
- [email protected]
- Telephone
- +27 76 605 9137
- Registration numbers
- None — a sole proprietor, not a registered company, and not registered for VAT
- Membership of any self-regulatory body
- None
- Complaints and dispute resolution
- See clause 17, and the complaints route in clause 18
Where these terms say we, us or our, they mean that person. Where they say you, they mean the person using Enoch or this website.
What these terms cover
These terms apply to:
- the Enoch website and every page on it, including this one;
- your use of Enoch, alongside the app store's licence terms described in clause 3; and
- support, sales and beta correspondence between you and us.
They do not replace the app store's terms. If you obtained Enoch from the Mac App Store or through TestFlight, your licence to run the application is the one set out in Apple's standard agreement; if you obtained it from the Microsoft Store, it is the one in Microsoft's Standard Application License Terms. Clause 3 explains how they fit together with these terms.
By using this website, or by installing or using Enoch, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the website or the application.
Your licence to use Enoch
(a) If you installed Enoch from the Mac App Store
Your licence is Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which Apple applies to every application distributed through the App Store unless a developer supplies its own. We have not supplied our own, so that agreement governs your use of the application itself. Under it, we (the Application Provider) grant you the licence, and Apple is a third-party beneficiary entitled to enforce it. Apple handles the purchase, the receipt and any refund. A TestFlight beta is provided to you on the same basis, together with Apple's TestFlight terms.
(b) If you installed Enoch from the Microsoft Store
Your licence is the Microsoft Store Standard Application License Terms, which apply to an application from the Microsoft Store unless it comes with separate terms. We have not supplied separate terms, so those terms govern your use of the application itself. They are an agreement between you and us as the application's publisher. Microsoft handles the purchase and any refund. A test release we share with a private audience through the Microsoft Store is provided to you on the same basis.
(c) Direct sales
We do not sell Enoch directly. If we ever do, we will publish a direct-sale licence and refund policy, and update these terms, before the first direct sale. Whatever the source, the licence is for using the software, not for owning it — clause 14 sets out what remains ours.
(d) Whatever the source
You may not copy, sell, rent, sub-licence or redistribute Enoch; reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it except to the extent South African law expressly permits despite this restriction; remove or obscure any copyright or licence notice; or work around any licensing, activation or feature-gating mechanism.
Enoch Play and Enoch Composer
Enoch is offered in two tiers. Enoch Play is free to download and use, with no subscription, no account and no time limit. Enoch Composer unlocks additional features, listed on our pricing page and identified inside the application.
Enoch Composer is available from launch, as an in-app purchase through the Mac App Store and the Microsoft Store, in three forms that unlock exactly the same features: a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, or a perpetual licence bought once. The price you pay is the one the store shows before you confirm; prices on our website in currencies other than South African rand are approximate conversions. You can restore a purchase on another of your computers from Preferences inside Enoch, signed in to the same Apple Account or Microsoft account. A purchase belongs to the store it was made in: one made in the Mac App Store unlocks Enoch Composer on the Mac, and one made in the Microsoft Store unlocks it on Windows.
Whichever tier you are on, and whether or not an Enoch Composer subscription lapses: your scores remain open, editable, saveable, printable and exportable. Composer features stop working when your subscription does; your own work does not. Where a score uses a Composer feature — an attached video, or a part routed to an external MIDI instrument — that material stays in the file and is preserved when you save, even while the feature itself is unavailable to you.
We may change which features sit in which tier. If we move a feature out of Enoch Play and into Enoch Composer, that change applies to versions released after the change; it does not reach back into a version you have already installed.
Named releases and perpetual access
Pumziwe, beginning with version 26.1.0, is Enoch's first named release. A Pumziwe perpetual purchase permanently unlocks Enoch Composer in Pumziwe and includes every Pumziwe update we publish, even after the 12-month period below. A named release is identified by its name, rather than by a range of version numbers.
The purchase also includes each other named Enoch release first made publicly available during the 12 calendar months after the purchase date recorded by the store you bought it from. Once included, a named release and its updates remain available to you without another payment. We do not promise that a new named release will be published during that period, or that updates to any named release will be published indefinitely.
If a named release is first published after that period, you can keep using the named releases already included in your licence. Access to the later release may require a separate, optional upgrade purchase. We will show the price and what that upgrade includes before purchase. An upgrade does not replace or cancel any named release you already own. App updates will preserve access to the Composer features of named releases included in your licence, subject to the device and operating system requirements stated for each app version.
Subscriptions, perpetual licences and upgrades
Where Enoch Composer is sold through the Mac App Store, Apple takes the payment and manages the subscription. That means:
- payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase;
- a subscription renews automatically at the same price and period unless you turn off automatic renewal at least 24 hours before the current period ends;
- your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period; and
- you manage and cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings, not here — we cannot cancel it for you.
Where Enoch Composer is sold through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft takes the payment and manages the subscription in the same way:
- payment is charged to the payment method in your Microsoft account at confirmation of purchase;
- a subscription renews automatically at the same price and period until you cancel it or turn off recurring billing in your Microsoft account, at account.microsoft.com/services; and
- we cannot cancel it for you. To move between the monthly and yearly plans, cancel one there and then choose the other in Enoch.
A perpetual licence is a single payment rather than a subscription. It does not expire or renew automatically. The named-release and 12-month update entitlements are set out in clause 4. A later paid upgrade is a separate purchase you choose to make; you are never charged automatically for one.
Prices on our website are shown in South African Rand. We are not registered for VAT, so we add no VAT of our own. Apple or Microsoft sets the price in your territory and collects any tax due there, as the store shows before you confirm. We may change our prices at any time; a price change never affects a period you have already paid for.
Cancelling and refunds
Bought through Apple? Apple handles refunds under its own policy, through reportaproblem.apple.com. We have no ability to grant or refuse a refund on Apple's behalf, though we would still like to hear what went wrong.
Bought through Microsoft? Microsoft handles refunds under its own policy; its guide to requesting a refund explains how. We have no ability to grant or refuse a refund on Microsoft's behalf either.
Enoch is sold only through the Mac App Store and the Microsoft Store, so every refund goes through Apple or Microsoft. To stop a subscription renewing, turn off automatic renewal in your Apple Account settings, or recurring billing in your Microsoft account, as clause 5 explains.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or ECTA that cannot lawfully be limited.
Your scores stay yours
You own everything you create with Enoch: your scores, parts, arrangements, lyrics, recordings and exports. We acquire no ownership of them, no licence to use them, and no right to publish, analyse or distribute them.
We do not and cannot read your work, because it never reaches us. Enoch runs on your computer, saves to locations you choose, and transmits nothing — and the assistant, when it arrives in a later update, will work entirely on your own machine too. Our Privacy Policy explains this in full.
We never train any model on your music. The language model bundled with Enoch is trained by its own publisher and shipped fixed inside the application; it does not learn from what you write, and nothing you write is sent anywhere to train anything.
Because your work lives only on your computer, backing it up is your responsibility. Enoch autosaves, but an autosave is not a backup.
How you may use Enoch
Write whatever music you like. What you may not do is use Enoch or this website to:
- infringe someone else's copyright — engraving, arranging or distributing a work you have no right to use is your responsibility, not ours;
- break the law, or help someone else break it, in South Africa or wherever you are;
- attack, overload, probe or interfere with our website or any system we run; or
- misrepresent Enoch as your own product, or imply that we endorse you, your music or your business when we have not said so.
Plug-ins, sound libraries and fonts
Enoch can host third-party instruments and effects — Audio Units on a Mac, VST3 plug-ins on Windows — and can load sound libraries and external MIDI destinations that you supply. Those are other people's products. They are licensed to you by their own publishers, on their own terms, and we make no promise about how any of them behaves, whether it keeps working, or what it does with information you give it.
Naming a third-party product — in the application, on this site or in support correspondence — describes compatibility only. It is not an endorsement by them of us, or by us of them.
Enoch itself ships with third-party components under permissive licences: the Bravura, Bravura Text, Leland and Edwin music fonts; the GeneralUser GS sound bank and the VSCO 2 Community Edition string samples; the Qwen3-0.6B language model, for the assistant arriving in a later update; and the OxideAV MP3 encoder. Their licence texts are included in the application, most under Preferences → Acknowledgements, and your use of Enoch is subject to them.
Beta and pre-release software
Enoch releases marked beta, public beta or pre-release are unfinished. They may contain defects, may behave unpredictably, and may damage or fail to save a score. They are provided for testing, as they are, without any warranty at all, and you should not use them for work you cannot afford to lose.
If you take part in a beta through Apple's TestFlight, Apple's beta terms apply to your participation alongside these terms; if you try a test release through the Microsoft Store, the Store's terms apply in the same way. Feedback you send us about a beta may be used to improve Enoch, without obligation or payment to you — but your scores remain yours under clause 7, and we never take a score from a beta build.
Availability and changes to Enoch
We develop Enoch continuously. Features may be added, changed or withdrawn; a feature present in one release may not survive into the next. Where a change would stop a score opening or lose material you have already written, we will say so plainly in the release notes. The perpetual entitlements in clause 4 remain in place when a new named release is introduced.
This website may be unavailable from time to time, for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We do not promise uninterrupted access to it.
On a Mac, Enoch requires macOS 14.0 Sonoma or later, running on an Apple silicon Mac; it does not run on Intel Macs. On Windows, it requires Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit (x64). We may raise these requirements in a future release; doing so does not entitle you to a refund of a period already paid for. Permanent access does not guarantee that an older release will run on every future version of macOS or Windows, or on every computer.
What we promise, and what we do not
We promise that we have the right to license Enoch to you, and that we will provide it with reasonable skill and care.
Beyond that, and to the fullest extent the law allows, Enoch and this website are provided as they are. We do not warrant that Enoch will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will meet your particular requirements, that it will be compatible with any particular plug-in, sound library or MIDI device, or that defects will be corrected.
Nothing here excludes a warranty or right that the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 gives you and does not allow to be excluded, including your right to goods and services of reasonable quality.
Our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profit, revenue, goodwill or opportunity, or for loss or corruption of your scores or data — which is why clause 7 asks you to keep your own backups.
Where we are liable to you despite the above, our total liability for all claims arising out of or in connection with Enoch is limited to the amount you actually paid us for Enoch in the twelve months before the claim arose. If you are on Enoch Play, or bought through Apple or Microsoft rather than from us, that amount may be zero.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that South African law does not permit us to limit.
A note on Apple. Where you obtained Enoch through the App Store, Apple has no responsibility for the application or its content, and no obligation to provide you with support or maintenance for it. Any claim about the application is between you and us, not you and Apple, except where Apple's own terms say otherwise. In the same way, where you obtained Enoch from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft is not responsible for supporting the application; a claim about it is between you and us.
Our intellectual property
Enoch — its software, notation and layout engines, interface, icons, documentation, the name Enoch and the Enoch logo — belongs to Sipumzo Trueman Lucwaba and is protected by copyright and other laws. Your licence under clause 3 gives you the right to use it. It transfers nothing else.
The content of this website — text, images, screenshots and design — is likewise ours. You may quote from it with attribution, and link to it freely. You may not copy it wholesale, or use the Enoch name or logo in a way that suggests we published, endorsed or approved something we did not.
The music you write with Enoch is not covered by any of this. It is yours, under clause 7.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using Enoch at any time, and uninstall it. If you bought a subscription through Apple, cancel it in your Apple Account settings; if through Microsoft, in your Microsoft account.
We may suspend or end your licence if you materially break these terms — in particular clause 3(d) or clause 8 — and, where the breach can be fixed, have not fixed it within 14 days of our asking you to.
Even then, you keep your work. Ending a licence stops you using Enoch. It does not take away scores you have already written, and we will never remotely delete, lock or alter a file on your computer.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Enoch changes. The version in force is always the one published here, with its version number and effective date at the top of the page.
Where a change materially reduces your rights, we will give you reasonable notice before it takes effect — by a notice on this site and, if we hold your email address for that purpose, by email. Continuing to use Enoch after a change takes effect means you accept it. A change does not remove named releases or updates already included in a perpetual licence, or shorten its 12-month eligibility period.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer somewhere else, this does not deprive you of any protection your local law gives you and does not allow to be contracted out of.
Before anything formal, please write to us — most problems are a misunderstanding, and we would rather fix it than argue about it. If we cannot resolve it between us, you may refer a consumer complaint to the National Consumer Commission, or to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud, without giving up any other right.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of them continues to apply.
